KYC (Know Your Customer) is the client identification process required under Spain’s Law 10/2010 on anti-money laundering. It’s a mandatory step for law firms before starting to provide legal services.
Even though KYC is a legal requirement, for many clients (especially international ones) it often felt like an unnecessary hurdle right before they were ready to sign on. It was frequently seen as an invasion of privacy, creating friction, hesitation, and —in the worst-case scenario— lost business.

Before adopting Parallel, Lexidy managed the KYC process using several tools that were barely—or not at all—integrated with their CRM, HubSpot. David Planes recalls the experience as frustrating and inefficient:

Today, KYC at Lexidy is more guided and intuitive. Clients receive a unique link, access the form, and simply fill in some basic details, complete biometric verification with their ID, and upload a few documents.
Progress is saved at every step to prevent unexpected data loss and to let users continue where they left off.
Once all the information is collected, the system generates a risk score to help the lawyer decide whether to request additional documents, move forward with the legal service, or stop the business relationship.
During the process, Lexidy runs a global name screening to check potential matches with politically exposed persons (PEPs) or sanctioned individuals, a CDD step that lawyers previously had to do manually with a Google search.
